"WA's answer to the Archibald Prize, the Mine Own Executioner exhibition has stood the test of time and holds pride of place in WA artists' hearts for continuously questioning the position of the artist in art."
Ric Spencer, Visual Arts Writer
The West Australian

Since 1995, many of Western Australia's leading visual artists have been invited to join emerging and mid-career artists in the Mundaring Arts Centre's annual self portraiture exhibition, Mine Own Executioner. To celebrate the longevity and popularity of this highly regarded tradition, the touring exhibition showcases 36 self-portraits, specially selected from the first decade of the Mine Own Executioner.

The selection of self portrait works in this show range widely in use of media and approach to the theme. There are paintings, drawings, textile works, sculptures and mixed media works, together constituting an extremely diverse and fascinating collection. Approaches range from the figurative and representational to the more abstract, expressive and conceptual. This is an exhibition with wide appeal, its central theme of self, personal experience and identity having relevance for a broad audience. Viewers will no doubt be fascinated by what the artworks reveal about the ways the artists see themselves and in turn will be encouraged to reflect on the way we as West Australians perceive ourselves and our relationships to the outside world.

The artists in the show are Hans Arkeveld, Su Baker, Aadje Bruce, Kate Campbell-Pope, Paul Caporn, Madeleine Clear, Barbara Cotter, Peter Dailey, Andrew Daly, Jo Darbyshire, Stuart Elliott, Rina Franz, Phil Gamblen, David Gregson, George Haynes, Nigel Hewitt, Michelle Hogan, Bevan Honey, Harry Hummerston, Greg James, Ben Joel, Trish Little, Brian McKay, Jane Martin, Gina Moore, Antony Muia, Janis Nedela, Ron Nyisztor, Christopher Pease, Kevin Robertson, Peter Saxon, Nalda Searles, Mike Singe, Kati Thamo, Michelle Theunissen.
