David Gregson: A Desire to Relate is a stunning survey exhibition about the art and life of the late Western Australian painter, David Gregson (1934 - 2002).

A Desire to Relate has been specially curated to bring a representative selection of David Gregson's magnificent artworks to regional audiences around Western Australia. An initiative of the Mundaring Arts Centre, this exhibition will provide visitors with a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate David Gregson's invaluable contribution to Western Australia's visual arts scene.

A highly prodigious visual artist, whose career spanned over 50 years, David Gregson is one of Western Australia's most highly regarded figurative painters. His dedication to opening our eyes to the communicative power of art, and his virtuosic talent with a paintbrush, strongly informed his art and continues to influence many an aspiring and established artist.

Curated by Catherine Czerw, on behalf of the Mundaring Arts Centre, A Desire to Relate comprises twenty rarely seen artworks in both oils and gouache, drawn solely from private collections. It will explore how and why David Gregson has come to be appreciated as a significant contributor to the story of figurative painting in this State.

"Gregson's highly expressive technical skills, deep understanding of colour and enduring ability to relate to the world through the act of painting and the art of living will all be revealed to exhibition visitors. The artworks have also been selected to illustrate the range and depth of this artist's talent across many genres, including landscape, still life and portraiture"
